It has been a while for me but I think you should combine like terms
you have a positive 9/y (+9/y)
and a negative 1/y (-1/y)
this gives you a positive 8/y (+8/y)
Then a negative 7 (-7)
and a positive 1 (+1)
this give you a negative 6 (-6)
so you have
(9/y) + (-1/y) + (-7) + (1) = 8/y - 6

You cannot reduce it any further like the answers above because it is not an equation You could if you had a equal sign but you dont

It is essential to use brackets to clarify question.
9 / (y - 7) - 1 / (y + 1)
= [ 9.(y + 1) - 1.(y - 7) ] / [(y + 1).(y - 7)]
= (8y + 16) / [ (y + 1).(y - 7) ]
= 8.(y + 2) / [ (y + 1).(y - 7) ]
Please note that you will receive many different answers because tha question has been posted incorrectly---BRACKETS REQUIRED!!
