About 25 % I would say, some of the aspects that are similar are :
That the spartans were a lot less and the persians were an empire
The spartans were great fighters
The spartans lost the important battles.
The name of the settings
That´s all, Leonidas and Xerxes existed ( supposed ) but the other characters were invented, and you are a piece of sheet jimmy just look at your punctuation don´t try to compete with people of level 3, I tell this with my own words, museums and my history classes, not with Wikipedia haha wikipedia is for ignorant people that copy-paste works and that want to be people with culture and that they don´t know a sheet so ***** you bittch, ******** ignorant. The movie presents the fact that 300 Spartans actually did sacrifice their lives to hold off the Persians for a limited amount of time. Some of the players, such as King Leonidas did exist, but the fact that the naval superiority of the Athenians also played a huge part as well, is not expressed in the movie. This event did actually take place in history, but it plays as if it is a mythological retelling of the events at that time.

Like any movie...based on fact, it is sensationalized enough to hold your interest. The real accounts are very close. In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC, the Greeks fought the invading Persian Empire at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the Persians for three days in one of history's most famous last stands. A small force led by King Leonidas of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes I could pass. After three days of battle, a local resident named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks by revealing a mountain path that led behind the Greek lines. Dismissing the rest of the army, King Leonidas stayed behind with 300 Spartans and around 700 Thespian volunteers. The Persians succeeded in taking the pass but sustained heavy losses, extremely disproportionate to those of the Greeks. The fierce resistance of the Spartan-led army offered Athens the invaluable time to prepare for a decisive naval battle that would come to determine the outcome of the war.

Discovery channel did a 2 hour feature on the battle. Most of the story in 300 matched the historical accounts including their training, their equipment and their fight against the "immortals".- although there were more Greeks than just the 300...
I don't know if the real Spartans were as Buff!

There were actually 300 Spartans who held off the Persian army while they let their comrades escape back to their families. What most people don't realize is that there were 1000 other soldiers who fought with the Spartans on that final day, but the Spartans were the last 300 still holding them back. I watched an episode on the real Spartans on the history channel., It's a great story and the movie 300 was awesome! They really did train their whole lives to be warriors. They were awesome soldiers.

It was not a myth nor was it entirely true...they had a lot more then 300 men for one thing....all the dialog in between is not truely documented of what happened....its called Hollywood.....they only thing true about it was that the Spartans help of the Persians as long as they could so the Greeks could get their forces together...they all died in the process. Oh and most of the characters where made up....only the leader and his generals where documented to be real....and its amazing...they start their training from ager 9 to become a warrior..men woman and children

Most of it, the numbers are a little off, but its acctualy quite true. the real numbers are Persia with 2,641,610, and Greeks with 5,200+. Also there were many more greeks nations fighting than just the two they showed in the movie Spartans 300
Mantineans 500
Tegeans 500
Arcadian Orchomenos 120
Other Arcadians 1,000
Corinthians 400
Phlians 200
Mycenaeans 80
Thespians 700
Thebans 400
Phocians 1,000
Opuntian Locrians 13
Also the Persians built a bridge of ships to cross the sea.
The people below that say its only about 30 percent true are retarted, and need to go back to highschool history class. Ofcourse the character names are not historical you ******* morons, just the kings, not many non kings are documented from that time, they dont document trailer joe who lived in the local spartan junk yard and fought in the war. Anyway, yeah.
anyway for those of you who didnt graduate highschool, just go to Wikipedia.com and look, quit making **** up that you think is true.
And miss it was a comic book before it was a movie, its a remake of a movie hooker!! called 300 spartans.

The names of the characters are true. The numbers that were actually there at the battle was false. The spartans weren't the only ones that helped with the battle. Also, 300 is just a fictional depiction of one man's way of telling the story. It was a comic book before it was made a movie.

all and sundry needs intercourse, even women folk. Why? because of the fact intercourse = toddlers and biologically, we are programed to % to procreate, we would like the species to proceed to exist. yet we do strengthen thoughts to boot, adult adult males and ladies folk. I observed a action picture some vampire falling in love with a girl. Is it in step with a real tale? of direction no longer. don't be so gullible and understand the certainty that some issues are made up or exaggerated for entertainment purposes.
