Smell works by literally detecting the shape of the molecules that touch the nose. I'm assuming you're not asking how fast it takes the brain to interpret the data the nose receives; so if you're asking how long it takes for molecules to travel from the source to your nose, it is extremely varied due to a large variety of factors.

Wow that's a really good question...but you should ask a scientist, I don't know. My guess is smells travel on the air like smoke, so however fast smoke travels.

kind of, buts its actually more about diffusion of molecules in the air. obviously it would be slower, such as dissolving powder in a bottle of water would be slower than turning on a light or a radio.
