It's an '81 Honda CB400. The engine revs up but doesn't develop much power and acceleration is slow. I cleaned out the carbs so I think they are ok. I'm wondering how much the exhaust system, carb synchronization or valve adjustment can affect the power output. Plus any other useful thoughts people have.

--Honda Hawk? The A model will be affected by the clutch.
--Carb sync won't increase power, but will smooth out the running and performance of the engine.
--The exhaust, same thing.
--If the valve clearances are to tight, that will decrease power. Check/adjust the valves.
--Valve leakage will decrease power. Perform a cylinder "leak down" test, to check.
--The main problem would be worn out cylinder, piston & rings. Perform a compression test.
--The bike is over 15yrs old. Expect to do some motor work.
