A kilometre (American spelling: kilometer, symbol km) is a unit of length in the metric system, equal to one thousand metres, the current SI base unit of length. It can be written in scientific notations as 1×103 m (engineering notation) or 1 E+3 m (exponential notation) — both meaning 1,000 × 1 m.

nanometre <<< micrometre <<< millimetre < centimetre < decimetre < metre < decametre < hectometre < kilometre <<< megametre

A corresponding unit of area is the square kilometre and a corresponding unit of volume is the cubic kilometre.

In English, the word "kilometre" is often pronounced with the stress on the second syllable (ki-LOM-etre) - following the stress pattern that applies to measuring devices (barometer and thermometer) rather than to other multiples of the meter (millimeter, decimeter) or other SI units (kilogram).

A kilometre is 1000 meters. which as one of the other fellas below pointed out makes 0.621 statutue miles. The metric system was adopted by the world in 1970's. The theory was that everything divisble by 10 was easier than using imperial measurements.

Hmmm . . . Some non-JWs ask questions like these to get on JW specific websites and such. But I don't think that is the case here. KM means "Kingdom Ministry." It is a monthly newsletter-like publication that JWs get.
