Group the like terms. So x's together, y's together, and constants together.

When you move one term to the other side, you change it's sign (from a + to -, or a - to a +):

Move the 3x to the right side of the equal sign:

-9 = 4x + 7 - 3x

Move the +7 to the left side of the equal sign:

-9 - 7 = 4x - 3x

Simplify it down;

-9 - 7 is -16. And 4x-3x is simply 1x. Hence

-16 = x

or

x = -16

first separate the variable and the numbers
3x - 9 = 4x + 7
-9 - 7 = 4x - 3x
-16 = x

You simplfy the equation:

3x-9=4x+7
(3x-9)-3x=(4x+7)-3x
-9=x+7
-9-7=(x+7)-7
-16=x

so x=-16

3x - 11 = 6 2x - 7 = 3 + x 3 + 3x = 9 + 2x 3x - 3 = 6 + x15 x(3) = 15 x(7 - 4) = 15 7x - 4x = 15

1. get all like figures together
2. follow operations

3x-9=4x+7
3x-3x-9=4x+7-3x
-9=x+7
-9-7=x
-16=x

3.To prove -16 is correct, put it as a substitution for x and if equaled you are correct

3(-16)-9=4(-16)+7
-48-9=-64+7
-57=-57 Correct that -16 is x

You want to move all the x's to one side, and everything else to the other. Subtract 7 to the left, and 3x to the right, and you'll have -16=x

Sure! OK, subtract 3x from both sides; this leaves you with
-9 = x + 7.

Now subtract 7 from both sides; this leaves you with
-16 = x
There you go!
