Once you've seen the heartbeat, it DOES lower your chance of miscarriage (not actually by you seeing it, of course, but by it being there) because of course there are a certain number of miscarriages that occur BECAUSE the baby's heart isn't beating. I don't know any exact figures or anything, but you can breathe a little easier once you see that heartbeat. Then once you hit 12 weeks, there's only a VERY small chance of miscarrying.

Im sorry this happened to you, i had a miscarriage last year at 10 weeks i know how hard it is.
As for the scan, im not sure if you are asking if the internal scan caused you to miscarry, but if you are, the answer is no it didnt. I had an early internal scan at 8 weeks this pregnancy and im now 34 weeks. If the internal scan caused miscarriages it wouldnt be done and the health professionals would know because if a high percentage of women had early scans then went on to miscarry- somebody would make the link.
Its an awful thing, but many happen for no known reason at all.

I had a scan at 7 weeks pregnant as I was having alot of cramps and pains.
The baby's heartbeat was fine, and she was the right size etc... Although the pains didn't stop, everything went smoothly until 16 weeks, but at 16 weeks I woke up bleeding with very strong pains. I got to the hospital in time and they managed to save my baby although I nearly miscarried. I had to stay in bed until 28 weeks with a high-risk pregnancy though.
I am now 37 weeks and 4 days! Not long until I meet my little survivor!
Just to show that although nothing is certain, and I came very close to losing my baby, there is always hope!!
Good luck. :-)

The chance of miscarriage lessens after 12 weeks (first 3 months) however whether a heartbeat has been detected or not has no bearing on whether a miscarriage will happen. There are lots of factors that contribute to a miscarriage

With one pregnancy I had a scan at six weeks, they saw nothing, and had a miscarriage.
With another I had a scan at about six weeks, she thought she saw a heartbeat, and I had a healthy baby.
A friend had a scan at about 8 weeks, there were twins, one had a very strong heartbeat the other very weak. She lost one twin and delivered the other healthy baby about 4 weeks ago.

Are u asking if the scan causes u to miscarry or if it is common to miscarry anyway, regardless of having the scan? early miscarriage is common, but giving birth to healthy babies is far more common. Don't stress about it, it doesn't help. what will be will be.
I had 2 early scans Im now 35 weeks pregnant

I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks pregnant! I was having a ton of cramps and discomfort on my lower left side. My OB brought me in to do an ultrasound and they also did some blood work.
I am still pregnant, 26 weeks to be exact, I have not miscarried, however it is VERY common to miscarry within your 1st trimester.
Most pregnant woman look forward to getting out of that 1st trimester, but in all reality we can miscarry at any time. There are babies that are still-born at 38 weeks!
Keep your head up sweetie!

I had an ultrasound done at 8 1/2 weeks, and they saw the baby's heartbeat. Three days later, I had a miscarriage. I believe it was the internal ultrasound, and the tech not knowing what she was doing. I am pregnant again 36 wks+, and refused to have another one done. A relative of mine had the same problem. Many Dr's don't believe this can happen to anyone, but it happened to me.
