You can travel within the European Union with your identity card, you don't need a passport. If you don't have ids in the UK, I suggest you contact the greek embassy or consulate and ask.

You can travel freely since it is a EU country, as long as your passport is valid. The problem is, if it expires while you are in Greece, you'd have to go to the british Embassy to renew it, in order to travel back.

Most countries prefer passports that have more than 6 months remaining before the expiration date.
