You have too many fish in a small aquarium. They are fighting for their space. Now that you've added the larger betta, things are getting a bit cramped. The molly want's to retain his space.

Why do people keep saying bettas can't be kept with other fish? Do you guys actually have experience, or are you just repeating what the guy at the fish store said? Bettas can be kept with the fish you have, just not in such a small tank.

How do you think you would get along with three strangers if you were all locked in a closet?

too many fish is one tank... now that you've added another fish, the tank is too coweded. they will fight and pick at each other. nither guppies or mollies are very good to go with bettas, though a betta may do fine with them in a larger tank...

I agree with "biogrand." There are tons of possibilities why this is happening.

Also, WHY do people keep saying that bettas can't be kept with other fish??? They are community fish!! Just not with the same gender of the same species...!!!

Look mollies live with small fishes like rainbows, neons, guppies etc.... whereas cichilids like angel fishes, silver dollar, discus etc eat neons or guppies. You might have given less food to your fishes thats why they are chasing your guppies.

There are many ways that this can occur. Probably there is too many of one gender and too many of one gender can viciously fight for the few gender remaining. Example: too many female, too few male. Vice-versa.
Another thing is that maybe molly is trying to establish dominant over the guppy by proving its strength. There are dozens of possibilty for its behavior.

Just a little adjusting or territories and pecking order. They should settle down soon. No worries at this point.

Betta's are not supposed to go with other fish. They should be alone.
