First you have to distribute the 4 throughout the parentheses. Then you would get 8x+28=4x-12. Then you can subtract a 4x on both sides, cancelling the x out on the right side and leaving you with 4x+28=12. then you subtract a 28 from both sides and you get 4x= -40. Once you get here, you divide out by 4 on both sides and find out that x= -10. You can make sure that this is the correct answer by plugging -10 into the equation whereever there is an x and you will get that both equations equal the same amount.
