I have windows xp. IE 6.0. Sometimes when I click a link my pc will prompt me to click a connect pop up and then go to a pop up to initiate an old dial up connection. This is totally unnecessary since I have a cable modem connection. It's also annoying, sometimes preventing me from moving along in what I want to do.

Remove all connections but your cable modem - click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications then Network Communications. Highlight each one that ISN'T your cable network and right click. Select delete and remove them.

If you installed a dialup, like NetZero or PeoplePC, or AOL, then you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel and uninstall them.

You didn't mention uninstalling the dial-up's program from your system. Did you uninstall it and close the account?
