So diplomats are savages ? I suggest you take a look at world history and see how many times diplomacy was backed up with a firearms. And as pointed out in so many other answers firearms are not the problem. Its the person behind the trigger thats the problem. Wise men may use diplomacy and education, but the government isn't full of wise men. The rights of the citizens to defend themselves and if necessary take up arms against an oppresive government should never be surrendered.

Rule of thumb in history......... there are those in the world who only understand force. Yes it would be great if everybody could just settle and do the best for their people...... but today is not that day.

Intelligent people use intelligent means to handle differences of opinion. Criminals use weapons. Intelligent people recognize that criminals are not going to knock on their door and ask to discuss the merits of giving up your worldly possessions in a spirited intellectual exchange over a dry chardonnay.
