If not, why not? If so, how long and why? I'm interested to hear opinions from Raider fans, Raider haters and neutral fans alike. Thanks.

JaMarcus Russell won't be able to lead them to a Superbowl but maybe he could lead to 8 wins, this year. That only because of the off-season acquisitions they made. They got 3 new lineman, They got Dominick Rhodes so they can have that two power back scenario so the QB doesn't have all that work like Ben Roethlisberger had his first year.

The second year I think he will have a run at the playoffs but won't get far with that.

But maybe three years from now they will be a force to be heard once again and the RaiderNation will hold their heads high once again. That and Al Davis will most likely be dead.

Kid certainly has the talent, question will be can he handle an NFL defense and the crazy RaiderNation fans who undoubtly will not give him time to develop before they start booing him. If the raiders dont fix their line problems they need to draft God and pray he signs because no mortal can stand in and take a beating like he needs to behind those guys. Without bloking and establishing a sembalance of a running game no QB will lead them back to contending status. The beauty of todays game is the best tend to fall fast and hard (like the Raiders...only 5 years ago the Raiders lost a Super Bowl to Tampa Bay, hard to believe it is only 5 years ago). Free agency makes it possible to get better quickly (unless Matt Millen is the talent evaluator) so a couple of drafts and a few good free agents and any team can climb into contention. Look at the Saints, from 2 pick in the draft to Super Bowl contender in 1 season! Or the Chargers! Or the 49ers (okay... well almost).

if they draft him, it will take 4 or 5 years for him to develop. The problem is the Raiders have so many holes it will be hard to fill them all. 1st thing I'd do is trade Randy Moss. The guy is a cancer. Did you see him last year? The guy is a disgrace. Also I'm not so sure Al Davis is the right guy to be leading that team anymore. He should swallow his pride and move along. The game has passed him by. He has dumped 2 Superbowl coaches, (Shanahan and Chucky) and then he brings back Art Shell? Lots of problems in Oaktown.

I grew up watching Daryl Lamonica and George Blanda. I am neutral now. I'm getting tired of Al Davis, to be honest.

Contention? Maybe. To the big game? Not this year. Not the next. Jemarcus is a big dude, but his first couple of years at LSU, he didn't show me much. I don't think he's the type of quarterback that will make a difference - like - let's say, Vince Young did for the Titans.

But I hope he does well.

I'm not a Raiders fan nor am I a Raiders hater but I just don't see Jamarcus Russell as the guy to lead them to Super Bowl contention. That's just my opinion. It's funny because he reminds me a lot of Daunte Culpepper and somehow I get the feeling that he will be a lot like Daunte Culpepper where as he won't fully tap his potential.

Jamarcus Russell is not a Super Bowl like QB. And the Raiders are a horrible team. Get some O-Line, a coach, and a GM and then we will talk.

No or @ least not right away i belive that russell can bring the raiders back to their old selves but first Al davis has to build a better O-line to protect russlle because the raiders have the worst O-line in the leauge and i belive they allowed a leauge worst 72 sacks not completly sure so for give but it will take time for russlle to adjust to the NFL not long but it will take time he wont be like vince young or big ben but in about a year or two he will deff lead them back in super bowl contention.

No---but he will lead the NFL in the amount of times he gets sacked behind the worst offensive line in the NFL.
The kid will be a rookie--if they even take him--you can't win without an offensive line--and they will be drafting in the top 3-4 again next year....they may win 4 games. be realistic people...this is biased from someone who doesn't hate or like the Raiders...I'm being realistic

russell could possibly help them reach the playoffs again in a few years, but he can't take them into super bowl contention...they have too many aging or misfit players to develop any sort of chemistry, and they likely won't have much respect for their coach, which will further damage the atmosphere...also, the offensive line needs a lot of fixing before oakland can even think about the playoffs, because russell can't show his abilities if he's on the ground before he can even release the ball

NO, He is is going to the Raiders, that means he is going to end up with drug charges and become a bigger thug than he already is. I don't see a super Bowl in Oaklands future, but maybe they will move back to LA and win won, but won't be until 2014.
