The nursing studies in the US are full and very difficult to get into. One of the main shortages is the lack of nursing teachers. The instructors have a master or doctorate degree but are paid little more then a floor nurse with an associates. The amount of regulation that they must follow is burdensome and the amount of risk that they place their license under is downright scary. Although to be a hands on nurse you really have to love people, to be a nursing instructor, you must also love nursing itself. I believe that it may be easier to provide the education opportunities in some of the other countries, and so they are able to create a larger pool of nurses.

Good morning...Where I live there is a shortage of nurses and Dr's simply because the rate of pay and the long hours or the malpractice suits that prior patients have taken to court. The State doesn't want to pay the bills for those on Medicaid to where alot of Dr's are leaving to another state. Nurses are given extra duties for the same pay to where this is an issue and I don't blame them. Short of staff increases to where those nurses that stay are working overtime to the extreme with no assistance from the organization or business that they work for. Then you have the one's that don't pass their drug test. There are alot of openings here at our colleges for the medical field and nurses are in demand! Have a great day!

Americans are self-absorbed and self-centered. Nursing is a job where you really have to put in a lot more than just study time. There is a big emotional committment being around the sick, elderly, and dying all day. They're not willing to put in the time learning a job they feel is beneath them because nursing involves taking care of others.

Although it does pay very well if you are an RN or a specialist, such as a trauma nurse or surgical nurse, it is not a glamor job. A person must deal with death and tragedy every day, irate relatives, doctors that are premadonas and patients that are ill-behaved. it also takes an educational commitment that goes beyond college.

Are you kidding? I go to a community college and the nursing program is the hardest to get into because so many people are trying to take it. My older cousin is a nurse, actually.

The studies are extremely demanding and unfortunately that scares some people away. When it comes to a career, some people prefer the easy way out.
