Cars are faster now, people are in more of a rush, speed limits are higher, and there are more refined illegal drugs. The safety equipment has really only kept up with advancements. Also, the gathering of statistics are more refined now, and dispersed much quicker.
We were probably less safe than we realize then, it just wasn't reported as much.

Maybe that's why they say, "OLD IS GOLD". We have become so lazy with these gadgets around us that don't feel anything anymore. We take everything for granted.
In those days, people used their brain to it's limits rather using hi-fi devices of today.
That's the real beauty we will never know.

True,if people let their kids do today what we did every day when were growing up,they'd have child services breathing down their necks. They'd probably be up on charges of child endangerment.I'm glad I got to grow up free, the poor punks of today have so much supervision from well-meaning safety freaks that they'll never be able to think on their own.

Good point. When I grew up, we didn't even HAVE seat belts in the cars. And there weren't so many people killed in wrecks, either. Go figure.
