You need normal fax modem and normal landline (telephone line), which you should have as you have ADSL. You cannot send fax over broadband without some sort of eFax (tm) type gateway service, and that cost $$$.

There is no extra cost unless you want a dedicated phone line. It can share the line with your phone and also be an answering machine. Usually you can set them to pick up at the fourth ring. If you answer the phone and hear a machine there is a number you press to transfer it to the FAX. If the fax answers when you are not home it will recognize the fax machine tone and either receive a fax or record the voice.

All you need is a 56k modem and a cable to connect to a standard phone line. Most versions of Windows come with a build in fax printer, You print your document to the fax printer, insert the receivers number and that's that. Don't get the modem socket on the laptop confused with you NIC socket.

you can't use ADSL to send FAX as i know.. so plug in your telephone line in to the laptop's modem and try this..

Go to Start>>All programs>>Accessories>>Communications >>Fax>>Fax Console

If your pc hasn't installed Fax wizard then insert the WindowsXP cd in and go to control Panel>> Add or Remove Programms>> Add/Remove windows components>> and check Fax Services and click OK to install.. hope this will help you to send a Fax to Fax machine

You won't be able to use the broadband ADSL modem to send the fax.

Try using a web service such as this one:
