Keto-enol is the tautomeric isomerism between a ketone and an equivalent enol.

Keto would be - C - C(=O) - C -, whereas the enol form is
- C - C(OH) = C -, where one of the two carbons alpha to the carbonyl carbon has to have a hydrogen.

Keto-enol tautomerization is a reorganizatrion of an enol to a keto form; the keto form is lower in energy than the enol form; but their will be an equilibrium between both forms, the keto form being favored. This bond reorganization can sometimes be a favorable factor in a reaction with a small equilibruim constant if one of the products is an enol; the equilibrium between the enol form and the keto form can sometimes add enough stability to that product to drive the equilibrium of the reaction toward products. This is a common rearrangement found in glycolysis near the end of the cycle, which illustrates how this rearrangement commonly occurs.
