I'm from the east coast (NYC/Philadelphia) and we speak fast because we think fast. It is hard to keep up with my thoughts. I drives me crazy when I go down south or the slightly populated states. It takes a week for them to say what I can say in minutes. If you don't like it; don't watch American television. We are not going to slow down so you can understand the thesis of our statements.

That is TV Mr. Dumbass. The TV shows have to fit in as much content as they can in their time slot. That is why they are speaking fast. It's not like that for real.

everyone on tv talks fast in every country around the world in every language. because they have a time limit.
unlike you and me yakking on the street . we can take our time to finish no cut off time. they have to worry about making time for commercial breaks and need to finish before the next program starts. they can talk slower on some stations like pbs (public broadcasting stations) because those stations recieve their broadcast funding from other sources than advertisers.

If you think Americans talk fast, you obviously haven't heard a Hispanic person talking in Spanish to someone else. They talk so fast in Spanish, I don't know how they understand each other.

Just tell folks your mind doesn't process words as fast as they speak, and ask them to speak very slowly to you......
Folks will understand that you're not very bright, and speak to you as though you are a child, so you'll be OK
