The stem core unscrews. It could be loose.

You may want to look into a cap for it instead.

Or briefly push down on it to clear any small debris that may be stuck in it. (with a ballpoint pen or something)

It depends...if your truck uses Freon, then you have to replace the whole a/c lines, etc. Why? Because if you take the valve out, you will loose freon and your a/c won't be fully functional. It won't cool off enough. And you can't buy freon anymore and you can't have it serviced by anyone. The only thing you can do is have the lines, seals, etc replaced and converted to R-134, the new a/c systems. But you might be ok with a '96. If you have the R-134 a/c system, then you can just replace the stem inside the valve.

Takes a valve core remover, but no need to replace the entire line.

it removes just like a valve stem on a tire. you can buy a valve stem remover or use a screwdriver or two to unscrew it

you can buy the valve and change it.you dont have to replace the whole line.
