Okay, hold on 'cause here we go..
To me, romance is a feeling and it is actions.
-It is allowing yourself to be fully enveloped in the feeling of being in love. With all of the stress in life, sometimes we have to manipulate the scenery to kick start the romance. Candles, a fireplace, wine, great food or soft pillows...they all say "I want to have time enjoying you/your love and nothing else right now".
-But romance isn't something reserved for moments all alone, it is also small things in a day that say "you are special to me", "I have this connection with you alone" and "I remember our special (intimate) times together".
Love can't be built on romance alone, but it's very hard for love to survive without romance either, so to me, romance is an outward reflection of the love and care I feel inside.

To me, my husband defines romance. Bear with me as I try my best to put his romantic actions into words ;-)
We have been having some challenges with emotional ups and downs recently with our 18 year old. Everything will be ok, but we understand fully that his life right now is in an upheaval. This takes it's toll on my heart; I hurt when my children hurt.
My husband went out yesterday evening to run a few needed errands while I stayed at home and was here to lend an ear/shoulder if our son needed it. My husband called while he was exiting the pharmacy...he asked if I had a moment to go stand in the driveway...he instructed me as I walked onto the back porch, through the gate and stood in the driveway. In his very soothing voice, he asked me to look to the west and take in the many different colors that were lighting the sky at dusk...the purples, the reds and even the pinks...he asked me to take a deep breath, then breathe out slowly as I raised my gaze up to the cresent moon, then down to the planet just below the moon...the entire time my gaze was fixed on the beauty of nature, I could hear his soothing voice in my ear on the other end of the phone...
To me, that defines romance.
The above mentioned isn't the only way he is romantic, but boy am I gonna get in big ol trouble cuz not only does he have an account here, he has a bad@ss reputation to uphold with the guys *teehee*
Our favorite mexican restaurant has the hottest hot sauce known to man...every time we go there for dinner and drinks, we begin our evening by placing a tostada chip in the sauce...by the end of our long relaxing evening, full of heart felt conversation, the chip is basically melted by the hot sauce...
My husband took a crayon and wrote in our shower, "Your love melts my heart like a chip dipped in Molina's hot sauce!" Ok, now if that isn't romantic, I don't know what is!
He brings me flowers, fixes special dinners for me and all that stuff that the majority sees as romantic, but in my heart, he has truly defined the word romantic...especially when he asks me to pull his finger...I mean, what an honor that he chooses ME to be his one and only puller!

Something that has it's own energy and magic at the start then afterwards you have to be prepared to do the hard yards to maintain it. Romance is the fire under that keeps the relationship cooking. (Must be getting close to dinner !)

Romance is a number of things. It's when you can look at each other, and just start laughing. Finishing their sentence, hugging each other, for no reason whatsoever.

Being treated like something/someone special. Being spoken kindly to, and having someone listen to me so well, that they don't feel the need to ask me what I want. (And don't feel the need to ask anyone else, either...) Having that expressed to me with an evening of all the little things that I like. All the little things that make me happy.
Not lust, whens it's just making-out or...ya know. Feeling like the person likes me, for me and personality. Not my body and ability to kiss.
When I feel special, I feel romance

When my boyfriend says and shows how he really feels about me.
Extra points if it is in front of other people.
