what do i need to get for wireless service?

i just got a laptop and it is wireless capable but i dont have wireless service. do i need to get a wireless card from my cell phone provider or what?

i dont have internet access at home, i dont really want to have it at home, i just have a cell phone, no home phone, no cable, its mostly going to be used at work and school

You need to get a wireless "router." And you need to get internet service, if you don't already have it at your home.

Here is how it works. Inside your computer you have a wireless access card "built in." You connect to "access points."

"Access Points" are hardware devices and they are typically called a "Wireless Router."

Your school probably has them and you may need a code (you enter in your computer) for it to allow you to access to their network. That code is called a "Key."

You will have a program on your computer (usually accessed in the lower right with the green and red bars) that you run to select the "access point" that you want to connect to.

If in school ask others that are connected how to do it.

Same way with work.

If you want to access the Internet through your cell phone, you will need to call your cell phone provider. Usually this is expensive. If you have the right phone you might connect through it using Bluetooth (which is different than the wireless access card built into your computer).

Think of your new computer as having a "radio" that can transmit and receive. That is all well and good, but it needs to transmit and receive from another device. There are a lot of restaurants, schools, and businesses that have this capability to talk to your radio in your computer. However since "security" is an issue, they usually want it done by a password or what we call a "key."

I think you will find your cell phone may be too expensive to do this. You may also need a cable from your cell phone to your computer. If that's the case, the fact that your new computer has wireless capabilities, it doesn't matter as it is your cell phone that is wireless.

Also when you call your cell phone company, since you don't really understand what you are doing, they will try to sell you on a package where you only have access at certain locations. Be sure to tell them that you want it done "through your cell phone" and not through your cell phone "bill."

Your best bet by far is to find a computer guru/nerd that understands wireless and have them help you. Solutions can be three to four times the cost if you don't know what you are doing and may not only cost more but not work the way you want.

Do you have any internet service right now???

If you have dialup, you can't do wireless over that connection.

If you have cable or DSL, then you need a wireless router.

that is going to, yet you wont be waiting to apply all the storms purposes. in case you turn it over to cricket, youre gonna screw up the telephone. youre probably basically gonna be waiting to make calls.. and not be waiting to apply the internet, and different useful aspects the hurricane promises.
