These things you mention are decided upon by a vote of "the people." There are no "shoulds" about it. One group of people complains and gets vocal... it eventually gets turned into a vote... and those who care one way or the other get out and vote.
Which part (or parts) of that process have YOU participated in?

Cigarettes are not banned everywhere. You can still smoke in your house. Such bans are done to protect Americans against greedy corporations who don't care about killing them.
If you want to see what it's like to be under true total government control, try sneaking into North Korea for a vacation away from democracy.

I don't think it is right for the government to tell its citizens how to live. They can't legislate morality. That is the trouble with abortion and gay marriages they currently have.
The government is there to make sure the country runs smoothly and correctly. They are also here to do SOME protecting of its citizens. They are not here to tell the citizens of the country how to live and what they can and can't do in their lives. That is known as a dictatorship, and there is no freedom in that.

booze and cigarettes are to completely different subjects....cigarettes have a direct threat to people that aren't doing anything but being around the person...they poison everyone that's around....as long as someone is not an alcoholic and is not driving the only person they are hurting is themselves.
we tried to ban booze once, it was called prohibition...people started drinking even more after it was banned.

many places have banned cigs in public places, because it's a danger to people who don't smoke. People can choose to drink alcohol and can choose to smoke, the dangers are there but i don't believe the government can tells us not to do it, in regard to smoking america is getting it right

You're welcome to move to another country and get all of their rights.
Oh wait a minute, they have very little rights, that's why they come to America. Well, I guess you're screwed then. You've had it way too easy for way too long. You need a good rights adjustment so you'll quit being so inept.
