Being up to date takes a toll on your bank account because you are going to want to be in fashion. Every style that comes out you want to have and if you are looking to advance in life it will restrict you. This up-to-date stuff is never ending.
On the other hand, it depends on your own style. Suppose you style is old-fashioned but you are a young person? There will many comments about how you look too old for your age.
Again, suppose you wear clothes that are up to date but you are middle age? You know the comments that you would hear? You think you are a young girl, why you don't dress for your age? Does the clothes on the rack says, "for young people only"?
My advice for you is to dress to please yourself. If you can afford to be up-to-date then go right ahead but do so moderately. You can't please everyone so you should try and please yourself.

My name is Samantha and i wear fashion designer clothes. I think u should have your own style but make sure the clothes match do something creative with your clothes add some color and some vibe. Be the cool new dude in town with your own style and maybe u can be in the fashion industy be creativy and fun!!!! But don´t push it to much. U can have ur own style but it has to be up to date, thats like the rules of fashion. I think u should create a brand new style that goes with u the best because i dont want to take your personality away. Take my advice BE YOU IN THE UPDATED WAY!!!:):) have FuN!!!!!!

Having your own style without a doubt. Being up to date might be ok but when you have your own style its an individial thing often based on what you know suits you so therefore you probably look better that someone who wears latest fashions

I think having your own style is best because, then you don't end up looking like everyone else, where I go to college almost everyone is up to date and is spending too much money on it! Whereas I am happy just being myself and looking different and saving money for next year (not shockingly different). Maybe i went a small bit astray with this answer but I think it's good...

following a fashion trend can open you up to new ideas so following fashion is good for that- however you have to be honest and know what will work for you and you can develop your own sense of style as you get older and look stylish and origional which can make you stand out in a crowd

own style by far! it shows that your an individual, confident and dont care what ppl think, havin your own style never goes outta fashion. personay i tend to follow the crowd and the latest fashions but i always have a little bit of individuality in there, i have full respect for those who dont give a damn!!

other than having your own style, dont cause see people look better than you, then copy that person.
people copying others style looks really bad, dont have their own sense of stylish de.
having your own style, will also be able to bring out the fashion in you.

You're own style is miles better than todays fashion. Wear what you're comfortable with, besides todays fashion is getting really strange.
