My answer is a slightly different take on the "best" designation. In the "Best Colleges" ranking of US News & World Report,
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/rankindex_brief.php
these 4 got overall high marks and provide veterinary degrees:
Auburn
Cornell (if you want to stay in New York)
U Minn - Twin Cities
Wash. State Univ.

Another to consider:
Colorado State Univ.

There are only 28 Vet colleges in the US. It is easier to get into med school than vet school.

University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the best in the country. Over 50,000 animals are seen @ the Vet Teaching Hospital each year.
.
The # of applicants to the U of I each year is 200 + from IL and 500 + from other states.

The # admitted each fall are 80 from IL and 25 from other states.

Good Luck to you.

Michigan State University has one of the best Veterinary programs. Also - are you looking at small animial versus large animal? That may influence the answer.....

There are only 28 Vet schools in the US and all are excellent. Students often don't have much of a choice of which one to go to because most of them restrict the number of out-of-state students that they will accept.

For New York, your choice is Cornell University.
