i have a 94 buick and i jsut checked the trans fluid and its no where near its suspose to be can that be the reason my car jerks and is smoke under the hood?

The transmission is either leaking fluid or burning it.
Check below the pan, torque converter, & tails shaft for red oil. If there has been an after market oil cooler installed, check the plumbing by the radiator.
If it's burning it, remove the vacuum line at the trans. If there is fluid present, then replace the modulator.

Yes, it is one reason. If your fluid has been low for a long time, the transmission has been "starved" for lubrication/hydraulic pressure, and is probably damaged. The smoke is telling you it's gone too long...

Put some fluid in up to the mark, see if the smoking stops. Then find the leak that caused the low level...

Maybe it will drive, maybe not...

yea, that would make it jerk,and as for the smoke,better take a look,it could be leaking down on the exhaust.it could be a line or seal leaking.

yeah probably one of many reasons, stop being a tight wad and get that car checked out by a mechanic shop

yea might be..check if one of the hoses from the tranny to radiator is leaking.and the "road's wind " is blowing it , from the bottom to the engine
