If you live in America then we should fight for our freedom and just not the same national guards that are broken from so many tours in Iraq?

Good idea but don't you think President Bush should be the first one to be sent there - may be on completion of his term if not before?

Fighting for your country is voluntary. Do you really thing convicts are going to WANT to put their life on the line for a country that has banished them to prison? Clearly were not winning this war, but there'd be no chance if we sent unwilling participants. I believe these people would be the first to commit acts of treason and they'd be killing thier own, other than our enemies.
This idea is just silly.

It's a great thought. They should be doing something besides sitting in a prison cell sucking money out of the law-abiding citizens who work hard to furnish their food, housing, and clothing.
However, they've already proven they can't follow orders, can't be trusted, and most don't want a better life if they have to earn it, so putting weapons in their hands and expecting them to serve their country with honor just wouldn't work.

No -- prisoners do not make good soliders. They have no sense of duty or honor. They do not follow orders. A soldier must repersent his country on and off the battlefield. Somehow a bunch of rapists and murders doesn't sound like a great group of role models.

Okay, first, our soldiers are not 'broken'. Most of them know the stakes, and agree the job needs doing. As to putting prisoners out there, it wouldn't work. US soldiers are highly trained, highly qualified individuals. The days of throwing 'cannon fodder' out at the enemy are long gone.
