This is your life , and you only get one. What would be the point of trying to pretend to be someone your not? I'm not saying that your sexual orientation is even something that defines who you are , unless that's how you choose to portray it. If your family or friends don't want to accept you for who you are , then they are truly missing out on what could be an amazing person. If you do decide to finally come out , and if your reactions are negative and un-supportive , don't lose faith. Someone will come along who will love you for you and not have issues of concern with the way you choose to live your life.

In spite of the positive effects, I'm sure a lot of people have lived and died without coming out of the closet.

there are many ways to waste a life... If you lose friendships over being who you really are, they are only friends with the facade you built for yourself... These are the friends you need to lose anyway... You will quickly find better people to rely on... To me, at some point, your life takes priority over your family's expectations for your life... Take control... You'll be surprised how people will react... And better to know than wonder, I think...

Your question is based on a false assumption.
You cannot have close relationships with family and friends without honesty and coming out is ultimately about being honest with those that we care about.

Yes you can stay in the closet. You can even marry and have children and really ruin some poor woman's life. Or you can just stay single---and that alone will make people suspect that you are gay..when you are 50 and single.

People who do this are less than dirt. I don't care if you don't wanna campaign door-to-door for gay rights, but at least have the backbone to seize your own happiness in life. Your thought process is the mindset of a coward, sneaking around in the shadows because you are ashamed. Are you going to let the world tell you who you are?
