Try getting acrylic nails put on. You cannot bite them. You have to have them filled in every 3 weeks or so, but if you leave them on for a couple of months, it will help break the habit. They will look so pretty you won't want to mess them up. I have done this and it worked very well for me.
Good luck! I feel your pain!

I agree with The first answer. Get Acrylic nails. I used to bite my nails and after having acrylics on I have over come that problem. I had nice looking nails while I was refraining from biting. I keep the nails on for over five months, got them filled every two weeks and actually changed colors and had designs put on them. Putting nasty tasting things on your nails is not really a deterrent as it can be washed off, acrylics definitely stop the biting.

Acrylics are a great idea, as said, but nail polish is good too! Even a bright colour, and it dont taste so good. I find with me, it's done unconsciously, and before I realise it, the damage is done. I made a point of every 2-3 days, at a certain time, I would give myself a mini manicure, seems to have worked. I'm proud to say I have nice nails now, but even last night I was nervous about something, and chewed a nail right off before I even realised! Work in progress I guess.... Good Luck! :)

You could try spraying bitter apple and/or another unpleasant tasting substance on them.
You may also want to try a behavioral approach of rewards for increasingly lengthy periods of NON-biting. For every 4 hour period of non-biting, add a chip to your reward jar. When you reach 25 chips, GET A PROFESSIONAL MANICURE or provide yourself with another reward. Start out by wearing mittens/gloves if necessary.
Best of luck,

Try dipping your fingers in Things that taste bad several times a day such as : nail polish remover, lemon or lime juice, vinager, you get the picture. This will keep you from putting your fingers to your mouth because your fingers will taste horrible! Hope this helps!
