there are ususally night classes offered in the community, usually for free in big cities (I have taught them)
If you are teaching them, there are many beginnners text books out there. Buy one, and just go through it. Start with numbers, colors, etc. Words that describe and simple verbs.
It's not easy to teach English.

Watch TV! Watch movies! In my job, I work with a lot of Hispanic kids. Many of them have trouble with our language because it's not spoken at home so their exposure to it comes only at school. Two boys I've had this year are very fluent in English and both of them are movie freaks. They love to watch movies and then tell me all about them. I also have a friend who adopted two Russian children several years ago. The kids didn't know a word of English and my friend didn't know a word of Russian. After one year here, you couldn't tell those kids weren't born here. They were completely fluent in English. I asked her what she did to help them learn it and she said nothing. They learned it from watching TV and playing in the park with English speaking kids.

Corresponding with someone via email. I am trying to learn Spanish and have a couple of people I can write too in Spanish. They correct my mistakes and I correct theirs as they write to me in English.
But the best way is to converse/speak with people.
