It has to do more with our American Heritage than with our morality. Owning a gun is a Constitutional right. Marriage is not. Our forefathers assumed the right to protect oneself and divorce was looked upon as a terrible event to be avoided at all costs. So they could buy a gun anytime, but in the unusual event of divorce they wanted the couple to take time to resolve their problems. By the way, if you move to Colorado, you can get a divorce in 90 days.

"Owning a gun is a Constitutional right. Marriage is not."
Marriage isn't a Constitutional right because marriage an international issue; therefore, marriage is probably more of a human right. Itty bitty tiny priority difference there.
Anyway, that wasn't my point.
Uhhhhh . . . . hmmmm . . . well . . . .
I'm trying to find an angle, and I KNOW that money is a factor somehow because it always is. I'm thinking it has to do with taxes. Filing jointly is taxed higher than filing separately . . . I think. So, the government gets more of your money. They want you to stay married. Maybe reconsider it in that year that you have to wait. But a gun, eh, they get maybe, what, $50 in taxes if it's a really expensive gun?

The vast majority of divorces mess up kids, and families.
The majority of handguns are never used to harm anyone.
There is no 'message'.
It probably takes longer to become a lawyer than both of those put together, perhaps you see a 'message' in that also?

I've always thought the process was bass ackwards. You can get a marriage license in a second, but then have to wait months to a year to get divorced. Perhaps if people had to jump through more hoops to get married we would have less divorce.

They're hoping you will shoot yourself before the divorce is ready to go to court because there is a back log of cases and it is much cheaper for the tax payer especially if you buy your own bullets and insurance doesn't have to pay out.

Must be a commenwealth. They also have a law that you can not kill a pig after 4 pm. ( what the heck does that have to do with anything right?)
