I think we have to be rational here and accept the failures of the Italian bid.
This is twice now that Italy, the raging favourite, was pipped at the post. For the 2004 Olympics, Rome was favoured over Athens, but over-confidence and the arrogance of the then IAAF Chief (forgets his name, he died shortly thereafter of a heart-attack), cost the bid.
In contrast, Athens after losing the Centennial Games to Atlanta, went about correcting it's mistakes and presented a well oragnised bid, plus with added sympathy of losing in 1996.
This time around, Italy again mocked the bids of others as crude, and did not play the sentimental card well. They also forgot about the fall-out of the match-fixing scandal and the bad behaviour that is creeping in the terraces. The sometimes barbaric behaviour of fans of the 2 capital teams springs to mind, but the terrible death of the policeman in Catania, was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Just because we are World Champions, does not give us the right to anything. We must work hard for it. The old Italian habit of charm over effort, doesn't really work in modern society.
We use to mock the English for their football and the behaviour of their fans. Well their football has improved, especially at club leve,l and their fans by and large, are better behaved in their stadia. It's only the few monkeys that travel and misbehave, create the misconception that all English fans are bad.
I fear for Italian football, the disease that crept into the English terraces is making its' way into our stadia. The Ultras of old, were true supporters, supporting their club with a passion and would never do a thing to harm the image of the club. In fact, they ensured that players were on their toes, poor performances were immediately highlighted by vocal dissent.
However, a newer generation has taken over, these younger ultras lack respect for opponents and take their support much too far. As much as you can love your club and be strongly associated to it, at the end of the day, you must realise that this, is still only sport.
You don't go to stadia to get injured or killed, you go there to enjoy your sport.
Italy must really get its act together before its too late. Hopefully this rejection, will spur the authorities to clean up Italian football.

ITALY was the front runners for the 2012 UEFA European Championship finals hosts but the recent match fixing scandal in the domestic league & the crowd trouble in the UEFA Champions' League was the major factor that led to their disappointment.

poland make have there problems yes, but Italy have hooligans and they seem to run some off the football clubs and police dont have a clue what to do with them . Also Italian football is the most corrupt game i can think of and , if England won everyone would think it was a big fix .
If we did win it i would think it was fixed as well by the way we are that bad under the joker we have at the moment.

There is only one way to explain this fiasco -- SEPP BLATTER's politicizing FIFA member nations.
