Yours is the ultimate question of charity. The ultimate answer is to give up your life to save that of another person. You can not know if you would be brave enough to do this until it happens. Most people generally feel that they could do this, however in fact the so-called bravest can not do so, and the person that has always thought they were a coward --steps up in an emergency situation and does the unthinkable, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice-- to save a drowning child or walking into a burning house to rescue someone.

Also, nobody even really knows if they can give up physical wealth until asked or required to do so. Sympathy, empathy, kindness, civility, and generosity of heart is involved. Individual responses are also affected by greed, insecurity of person, and fear of the future.

see this is a question without a deffinate answer because ppl might give everything up for one person, and not for any1 else. for example, what i would do for my sister, or the girl i love, is much different from what id do for some random girl walkin down the street yeah sure id be nice to her if something happened id help but since i really dont care if it was her or me or something retarded like that id be like "hmmmmm.... (*looks around 4 a few seconds) send me a postcard if u need me ill be watching this story on the news later"

I would give my life to protect my wife and family. If I was in a bad situation and thought I could stop the bad guy at all, I would take a try to save myself and those around me. I was in the military in the Gulf war so I was also willing to risk my life for my country.

It depends on who the person is. If it is a relative, I'll be more than willing to give up everything, including my life for them. I'm not sure I'd do it for a stranger though.

Not any more. I spent the best part of my 55 years living the life others defined for me. I finally realized that "Love you neighbor as yourself" requires a healthy dose of self love. If I don't love me much, then "as" is really paltry. I am redefining and relearning...someday I'll have some really good love to share, not just sacrificial conformity.

WOW - difficult question! But a good one...

I think that the American culture is too 'me' focussed to allow people to think in the terms you suggest. Just look at the billions of dollars spent by Americans each year on therapy...an hour long session just to discuss themselves and their issues. People don't seem to be clinging onto their lives anymore, they are clinging onto themselves. So I don't honestly know if you would find too many people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the masses...

I would give up everything for my Daughter and family. For strangers, sorry, a little selfish here but no. A stranger has never done anything for me so why would i give everything up for them?

I would give my life for my mother or a child. Children are the most precious, innocent things on this hateful planet. Who wouldn't give their lives for a child, if not somethins wrong with you. Ur not very compassionate if u wouldn't.

Yes. I'd give up the one I love most. Just so, he can find his happiness. It dosn't mean if you love someone, he has to love you back in return. Love is one of the most complicating emotions. Often, it causes a lot of hurt ):
