If you are rounding to 2 decimal places, it is 1.21.

When rounding you only look at the number after the last place, not the others. The six does not come into play, only the 4

1.21 I seem to remember from my school days that if the next number is less that 5, you round the previous number down. for example, the third number after the decimal point is a 4, therefore the previous two numbers stay at 21. If the third number was 5 or more, you would round up and the first two numbers would then be 22. hope this helps!

When you are asked to round to decimal places you need to look at the next number along and then either add one on or leave it alone.
For your question you are asked for 2 decimal places so you need to look at the number in the 3rd decimal place. In your question 4.
If the number is 5 or more (5,6,7,8 or 9) you add on 1 if it is less than 5 (4,3,2,1 or 0) you leave th number unchanged.
4 is less than 5 so your answer should be 1.21

1.214603= 1.21 since you are only rounding to 2 decimal points you only go to the 4.

.4603 < 5 so it would be 1.21

1.21

just round
the 4 is below 5 so it rounds to zero and that keeps the.21 the
same but if u had a number of 5,6,7,8,or 9 u would round up and it would be.22

1.21
when you round numbers yo always round to the upper one if the next digit is 5 or above
otherwise you round to the lower one, in your case it is 4 after the 1 so you keep it to 1
1.21 not 1.22

When rounding look at only the numbers that matter, the rest are insignificant. In your case you are rounding to 2 decimal points so, the significant numbers are 1.21 and the next number 4, so 1.214 . The rest of the numbers do not matter. I think you know the rest.

the 3 rounds the 0 to 0
the 0 rounds the 6 to 6
the 6 rounds the 4 to 5
the 5 rounds the 1 to a 2

The correct answer if rounding to the nearest hundredth (the second decimal place) is 1.22

If your answer is 1.21 then you are just "trunkating" the number, not rounding it.

to round to two decimal points, look to the third, a 4 in this case. if it is 5 or above then you round up the second dp i.e. to 1.22 in this case. however if it is under 5 as in this case you leave the second dp as it is, so the answer is
1.21 (2dp)

mysticdude, i don't know who taught you to round but its certainly not what I teach in school. 1.214603 is closer to 1.21 than 1.22 hence it rounds to 1.21.

1.21 because of the 4 after the 1
(would have been 1.22 for 1.2151,say)
