When you hit menopause.

Not soon enough based on my personal experience.

Your period stops all together when you reach menopause, usually in your 40s or 50s, but it may be older (and rarely younger). However, there is about 5-8 years when you're in perimenopause.

Perimenopause is when you just can't predict WHEN you'll have your period or how long it's going to last. It's like going through puberty AGAIN! It may stop for months, and then be back. It may be next to nothing, or really hard. Your hormones are up and down and back and forth. My phrase at this stage was, "Don't like this mood? Wait 3 seconds and I'll have a new one." This is when you MAY have mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats and so on.

(*chuckle*) You can survive. Really. However, I do understand why some long term marriages start to have problems. You may not be the most pleasant person.

After you either have a full hysterectomy or reach menopause. Menopause varies with each woman and can begin between ages 42-56, with the average of 51.
