How should I back up my hard drive or the files on my hard drive? I've never done it before and I'm looking for suggestions. I don't necessarily want to save everything on the hard drive, just the important files. I don't know whether I should use an external hard drive, DVDs, CDs, flash memory or what. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First of all you should know why wee need back up?
The answer is if some thing goes wrong with hard drive we must have our important data to use later.

But where to keep that back up?
If keep on the same computer in that case by virus or any problem we could loose that, then the best way is
a: On CD-R Or CDR-RW (Cd is good to save less amount of data)
b: On DVD-R or DVD-RW(DVD is good to save a large amount of data)
c: On External Hard drive (External Hard drive is good to save small or large amount of data)
d: On External CD/DVD drive
e: On Flash memory( Flash memory easy to carry but I do not recommend it)

The all above options from a-e depends on our need. We must use any of the above which suits us.

How should we back up, choose any option from a to e then go to the file you want to back up. Put cursor on that one then use menu to copy it will ask you where do you want to save the file, choose where you like.

In short my answer to your question is, use the method which will save your energy and money.
"Work smarter not harder"

I hope this will help you
