I live in an area that has a lot of deer,could you tell me what I could use so they won't eat my flowers?

Deer frequently show up in our front and back yards and are eating all of our flowers.Is there something you can put out to stop them from doing this?

There are so many suggestions for that, you know nothing works in every case. These are very smart animals who's tastes vary through the season.

In addition to the bars of soap, human hair gathered from the barber and beauty shop, blood meal, hot pepper sprinkled on the plants, etc. There's a device that will turn on a sprinkler and squirt the deer when it enters your yard.

Planting deer resistant plants may help. You can find those lists by web searches.......since we don't know what part of the country you live.

Sometimes the more mature plants are not eaten, just the young growth. Gardeners have learned how to build wire cages around their planting beds; sides and tops, to keep the animal grazers off their plants until the more mature plants develop the bitter agents. For deer, I'm not sure they are that picky.

Thorny plants such as roses aren't safe. A friend recently sent me pictures of two deer munching her climbing roses around her kitchen window.

Marigolds make a nice border and deer don't like the smell of them (neither do I).

Also, if you don't have a dog, maybe you know someone who does and this is shedding season, so it shouldn't be hard to find dog hair.
If you put some dog hair (I've read that human hair works too) around your plants, the smell will (or should) keep deer away. You could always try asking a local groomer for some dog hair.

There are also many products that you can buy to spray around things that you don't want deer to eat, but Marigolds and hair are probably the eco-friendliest options.

There is an area where I live where most of the gardens are visited by Deer, Foxes, Squirrels etc. I've spoke to most of the house owners, They've tried everything and the mess they leave behind is devastating. If you can afford it the best solution would be a high green mesh wire fence. that way you can still enjoy the surrounding countryside without blocking out the view. I know its a bit drastic but its the only way. It wont stop the smaller animals as they will climb or jump, but your concern way purely for Deer.

Getting a dog IS a good idea, but if that is not an option you can spread human hair around your garden and this is quite effective. Take a box or bag to your haircutter and ask them to save some for you. It will need to be refreshed from time to time. This is the "organic" way, but most farm/garden stores sell a chemical that will do the same thing. I once stopped raccoons from getting in my trash cans by peeing around them once a week...

Don't know where you live, but another thing that works well is to plant foxgloves with your other flowers. Deer do not eat them and thus it will help protect your garden. That and maybe a wire fence should help.

sprinkle a whole lot of black pepper around the flowers, deer can;t stand it because it makes them go into sneezing fits. no joke!

you could try hanging a soap bar on your flowers or put dog pee on them it works my dogs pee on the trees and it works so does the soap
