My motherboard has 3 PCI slots and next to them, it's got an "outline" of what looks like an AGP slot. Is it possible to add this slot onto my mobo, or is it just a waste of time and money that I could use to get a better Mobo? It's the default mobo that comes with a Dell Dimension 2400.

It would not be worth your time, money, or effort to attempt that. There are so many traces on the motherboard for the different busses that it would be near impossible to add that functionality if it did not come with it natively. Even if you somehow managed to add it, the chipset on the motherboard more than likely does not have support for AGP. You are better off getting a new computer (or just motherboard, but Dell motherboards/cases are pretty proprietary).

New computers typically come with PCI Express slots, which had much more bandwidth than AGP and can attribute great speed to 3D rendering.

Waste of $, unless you just want to show your mad soldering skills! AGP is outdated. PCIe is the faster and more commonly available protocol now. Save up!

very sturdy for single GPU set up. it might desire to bottleneck the HD 3870 X2. P35 merely helps PCIe one million.one million. The X-38 chipset helps PCIe 2.0 which has double the bandwidth of PCIe one million.one million. twin GPU or multi-card set up income maximum from the better bandwidth of PCIe 2.0.

Not worth it to tinker around with proprietary motherboards. They are made that way - to give hell to anybody who makes an attempt.

Even if the chipset supports it, they BIOS would have to be programmed for it.

If you want upgrade advice, I suggest you try the AnandTech forums.
