We have heard that women shouldn't give birth naturally if they have poor eyesight. It was recommended to have a c-section instead.

Unless the poor eyesight was due to a detached retina or bleeding into the eye, or complications from diabetes, I wouldn't think so. I'm shortsighted and nothing changed through the four pregnancies and births.
If the other three conditions exist, check with her health care professional.

Never heard that one before. My vision was going bad before I got PG the first time. Hormones cause your body to retain fluid even in the eyes, causing them to change shape. That can cause vision changes. I was told not to bother changing my glasses Rx untill after the baby was born and my body had a chance to flush the extra water. My Rx was a little diffrent that it was before. That was 5 years ago and I now have a second baby and am getting ready to schedual another eye exam. If your really worried call your OB and see if there are any specific medical conditions you should be concerned about then have your eyes checked. better that then a lot of needless stress.

That is without a doubt one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. By that logic they should lift weights or poop either.

The hormones of pregnancy cause the lens of the eye to become softer. This can cause eyesight to become worse or better. In the months after delivery as they eyes return to a more normal state they again can get worse or better. It has nothing to do with how you give birth.

I've never heard of that. But, the blood vessels in both my eyes burst during the birth of my first baby. The amount of pressure in the head whilst pushing is incredible. My eye sight was ok.

I have never heard of this but I do know that you get a film over your eyes when you are pregnant and I was told not to get my eyes checked because the prescription would be different after I delivered.

good lord, i hope not! i'd be blind!

the pushing might burst a blood vessel or two, but i doubt it would make your eyesight worse. if a doctor told you this, i'd get a 2nd opinion, but if you just "heard" it from someone, then i wouldn't pay much attention.

You're kidding, right? That's ridiculous. It is true, however, that the hormones produced in pregnancy and breastfeeding affect vision.

no, unless she has high intraocular pressure or glucoma (speak to your optometrist or midmife first) Pregnancy does affect the eyes tho, your sight may fluctuate.
