You gave your country the power it has. You buy the products that your country makes, so how does your country pay you back?

In a word - OPPORTUNITY - In a free market economy you can do anything you choose - for instance I am in the process of starting an Internet company, but this is not an advertisement. All that is required is the willingness to take an idea and being willing to take a risk. Sure there is a chance of failure, but over the last 15 years this is our 6th business. Two we have sold, two we still own and one was a failure. (4 for 5 is not a bad batting average)
Particularly in the USA, you can start any business and the market will decide if you are successful or not. If your idea is sounds and people buy what you are offering, then you will succeed. If not you need to either do something else or refine your business plan and/or target market.
Unfortunately, many Americans take these words - Opportunity - Risk and Fear of Failure for granted. Add to this that most Americans do not want to work hard enough to establish and run their own business. The "American Dream" attracts millions of people from around the world to this country - people who are will to Risk and often work 10-12+ hour days, because of the OPPORTUNITY that they would not have in their home country. Think about how many small businesses - sandwich shops, Pak-and-Mails, varieties/news stands that are owned by foreign born people. They see the opportunity to own a business - and are very willing to work the many hours that are required to succeed in this, because they could not have done this in their home country. Most Americans are not willing to work the hours that are required, or risk almost everything - we are very happy working 8 hours and going home to sit on the couch and watch TV

My country provides me a place where I can live my life the way I want to live, where I want to go and who I want to marry and who I want to worship. My country gives me the wonderful freedoms we have to live a full life. Our country has helped many other countries around the world. Think of all the wars we've faught which started out going over to help the people of another country have a free and democratic society. We who live in the USA should be thankful every day for where we live and how easy we have it compared to other parts of the world!

The question is "What have YOU done for your country?"
By country, do you mean the Government or the people
living in your country?
If the government does not do a good job - change it in the
next election.
If you do not like the people - than, I have no idea on how
to change that.

It has given me the opportunity to have a great education.
It has given me the opportunity to succeed or fail in business.
It is harmful that it takes so much money that I would rather spend on my business and spends it on fetal stem cell research and abortions for people who should not be having sex in the first place.
I think we have improved the economy of Mexico by continually giving amnesty to illegal aliens who send all the money they make to Mexico and don't pay taxes here.
Companies in the U.S. have improved other economies by moving manufacturing plants to other countries to take advantage of their inexpensive labor force.

My country has given me the freedom to be me, no matter what/who that may be. My country provided me with an education, as far as my abilities could take me. My country has protected me, and my chosen lifestyle, against anyone bent on taking my liberty from me. My country has given me pride in who I am, and PRIDE in my country. RE: Other countries, my country has defended them against others bent on harming/taking over, and given that country back to it's people. My country has provided doctors, nurses, medical equipment, medicine, and Hospitals, clinics, and all necessary items,ie: beds. bed linens, pillows, slippers, pajamas, blankets, etc., etc. and the personel to staff these things and to care for the people who needed it. My country has located and provided the equipment, manpower, and knowhow to access other countires' natural resources, and enable that country to use these, and market them, so that country may be independent and self-sufficient. My country has provided seed, farm equipment,& livestock so that other countries can feed and care for themselves. My country has provided other countries with a bluueprint and an example for democracy, and the backbone via firepower and manpower, to achieve their own freedom. My country has rushed to the aid of ANY country threatened, either by nature or man, providing ANYTHING needed to recover from devastation, or attack. My country has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with other countries when they needed someone to "have their back". My country has faced down the most awesome, fearsome armies and navies and air forces in the world in defense of itself and its friends/allies. My country has stood steadfast in its promise to its people and the peoples of other nations to "be there" and to back its people, and other nations' people in time of war, and in time of peace. My country has founded and united nations' allied councils, an promoted and defended democracy wherever and whenever the people of any nation request that we do so. My country is not perfect, but my country tries each and every day to be the best it can be. It is not always successful, but MY COUNTRY is the country the people of other countries want to immigrate to, and become a citizen of my country too. my country is the Land of the FREE, and the Home of the Brave. And, just so you know: " My country; May she always be right; but right or wrong; MY COUNTRY!" Thank you, I'm glad you asked. }:>
