Yes, I was there last March, for a variety of reasons. The staff was wonderful and very caring. It was hard to get used to being so restricted at first; you have to earn privileges. Also, I am not a touchy feely type of person, and a lot of the group experiences were not to my liking.
I also felt that they turn you from one kind of addict to another, by the rampant prescriptions of meds they want you to take. They also make you attend AA or NA meetings, which I did not like at all. I realize those organizations help many, many people, but they wasn't for me.
And has it worked? Well for a while, of course. But there were and still are many other difficulties I am facing, and of course I relapsed, which a very large percentage do. I am not at the level that I was, and I don't do everything I used to do either.
The whole point is that youcan go where I went, go to a swank place like Britney Spears did, but none of it means ****, unless you want to stop. No amount of therapy, counseling or hugs will stop you.
Your time is pretty regimented, with the day being taken up with group and private therapy, classes, exercising, arts and crafts. We all had a roommate, which I also hated having, but we got along very well. There is a common room, where you can watch tv at night, and believe it or not;color. Yes coloring was a major activitiy, with markers being fought over. These were beautiful color sheets, copied from coloring books for adults, with stained glass window scenes, underwater scenes,etc...Yes it was calming, to sit and color while spaceout on your approved meds. There was also music therapy, which I liked.
Its a hard adjustment when you leave, there everything is done for you, and you are safe and secure. For months afterwards it was difficult for me to go about my normal activities, mostly because I wanted to avoid everyone I knew.
A good movie to watch is 28 Days with Sandra Bullock. It gets a lot of it right.

Yes I have and I have a nephew who just got out. While you are there things are very structured....from what time you get up to when to eat, etc. Throughout the day you have different group and individual counseling sessions based on the individuals needs. During off time, everyone plays cards and hangs out in the common room watching tv and talking.

the one friend i have who went has never spoken a word about it, he was there for almost two years back when we were kids. The place he went to was closed down by the state board a year after that, so we all just figured some really messed up crap was going on, and have never pressed him to tell us about it.
