I just changed my brakes which I usually do myself with no problems, however this morning on the way to work I stopped by the store and there was a lot of smoke coming from the drivers side brake area. Is this normal at all or what could be the problem???

Check your brake fluid. Is it leaking onto the brake pads?
Your greasy hand print could cause this too.
Did you change the rotors as well? New rotors have a protection grease on them that you have to clean off before installing.

look at the rotor and see if it has blued. if it has you have another problem, possibly a seized caliper. if its not it may be just burning off some fluids that were left on the rotor. I always cleaned the brakes with brake clean after assembly is complete just for safe keeping, also when you go to seat the brakes makes sure its done correctly as well. which is get to a certain speed and apply the brakes hard, then do that again a couple of times, no need to get over 35 mph or lock the brakes up.....

You may have gotten some brake fluid on the rotor or the disk pad. I would look into quickly and make sure it is not a seized caliper dragging on the rotor. Hopefully, it will just be some oil burning off, but since you said it was a lot of smoke, do look into quickly.

did you just put shoes on, is it disc or drum, if disc your caliper piston when pushed in and then applied does not go back because of dirt, replace caliper,, if drum you have the brakes adjusted to much, needs more clearance., back off the star adjuster.

if you dont want to do anything, hit the caliper by the piston with a hammer, it make loosen up, you will have to do this quite a few times after driving.

drum brakes will wear off the shoes and quit smoking after use, they adjust tighter when you back up and apply the barkes.

You may want to check the caliper. If it is siezed, or the pads are not seated properly, they could be making constant contact with the rotor.
