Its a very difficult question to answer. Every individual will rate different player as the best cricketer. My choice for best cricketer is Sachin Tendulkar.

Cricketers are mainly in two categories, batsman and bowler.
Each one has a specific task and as such you cannot single out a player as a best cricketer. You can either classify as best batsman and best player.

The best batsmen in the world of cricket till now have been Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara if you go through the past records. However, both of them are not in the peak form now and as such cannot be considered as best batsman in the context of today. Ricky Ponting is the best batsman today.

As far as bowlers are concerned, I consider M. Muralitharan as the best spin bowler and G.D. Mc Grath as the best fast bowler.

Who is the best cricketer? well what a question if we are taking in all the cricketes to ever play then i would have to say Bradman. was one of best batters ever, but if we are talking modern day then it is a toss up between Warne and McGrath in the bowling department and they is a few in the batting department Lara, Sachin, Gilchrist, Hayden, but i guess to narrow it down to one is every hard, because every country as its best players, but i think Rhodes is one of the best fields ever. so take a pick from that lot.
