I belive it means land/people (don't think there is a direct equivilent in English). Pakistan means pure (as in innocent) people/land.

Stan stands for place. Pak means pure. So Pakistan is supposed to be a place of purity.

Most commmonly, it means 'land of'. Making Afghanistan 'land of the Afghans', etc.

or 'Dumbfukistan', as some folk now call the US!

stan is actually pronounced as "sthaan"...it means place in hindi...im sure about it!
