Hey, guess what? The record before that was Bill Clinton in 1997. The record before that was Bill Clinton in 1993. The record before that was George H. W. Bush in 1989. The record before that was Ronald Reagan in 1985.

Are you picking up a pattern here? I would be willing to bet tons of money that there will be a new record in 2009 when the next inauguration happens. Let's see, there is inflation. Then there are people whom you must thank. Then there are various dignitaries who need to be taken care of.

Oh, and since it is paid for with donations, what difference does it make to you? At least the caterers and bands and such get paid. That helps the economy.

By the way, George W. Bush never had an inauguration in the 20th century. His first inauguration was in January 2001, which was in the 21st century.
