What you said has a point but I think most of these people have just had the hell kicked out of them by circumstances and people whether by individuals or groups or the whole society.

I believe that you are right about that idea. Some people are not happy with where they are in life. They have an idealistic view of what they should look like; what kind of work they should be doing; what their relationships should be like; what their social status should be. Sometimes it's never enough, even if others may see them as perfect.

The grass will always be greener in someone else's yard. Low self esteem is unhappiness with oneself.

True and False, True if your low self esteem is caused by none other than yourself!! If you feel your not living up to your own expectations, False if others have put you down - then you have no self expectations as you're constantly trying to live up to others expectations of you!! Make sense?

you mean they set their standards too high? I think that could partly be it, but on the other hand maybe some people have low self esteem because they don`t have standards, meaning, they don`t know what they want and don`t really aim for anything in particular.

Not always. I think some people have a low self-esteem because people have put them down for so long. Either family, peers, spouse...etc. After hearing it for so long, they start believing it.

perfectionism is the highest form of self-abuse. if you aim to be perfect you will always be dissapointed. low self-esteem can also be due to the having negative influances, situations or people around you.

I agree, but also think family life during youth has a substantial influence.

disagree - low self-esteem can be label to someone who has no goals - no desires - compares themselves to know one - they just feel real low about everything and fear comparisons

I've never thought about it that way but it does make sense, don't you reckon?

You obviously do.

I think we just might be on the same page here, somehow...
