Regardless of its nature does it start a fight between the nations. Are we all being patriotic or pathetic.
The whole "my country is better than your country" thing is very childish and stupid.

Christ almighty, just read some answers and how shallow!!.
Why does everything have to relate to History, whats done is done!!!, this is why Counties can't unite.
My ancestors kicked your dog in the 1800's so now I can't make peace with your Country, lets go to war!!!.
A bit extreme I know and sorry for being so blunt but isn't this the problem we are having all over the world?.

it is very childish what is said about each others countries. i'm english and love my country, fortunately i have travelled alot with my job and worked in most european countries. the stereotypes that peolpe have about certain nations is unbelieveable and definately untrue.

the english still have alot to say about german race, honestly you would still think we were in the blitz at times. go over, its fantastic and the people are brilliant and so welcoming.

i think maybe the american people are let down a bit by there government and most definately by there media. i really am not having a go but whilst i worked in london i dated an american girl and she could not believe what was allowed to be shown on our news.

i think the knock on effect is that when you speak to someone online from america who hasn't left there country it appears that there conversation is so pro america and that it is whiter than white, that it just bugs people. but, it really is not the fault of the people when all you hear is one side of the story and only the good parts of that. sadly when comments are posted by our american friends that sound ridiculous there is nobody worse than the english to basically take the p*ss.

maybe our countries are to alike!

all i can say is travel to places and get to know people from different backgrounds, there are some wonderful places and people to go and see and hopefully from that we might be able to understand each other a little better.

i know that it has worked for me.

Simply because you have the two greatest nations on Earth and have such close links with each other. For example;
Technology, certain technology America will only share with the UK and vice-versa (i.e. Cruise missiles, stealth technology, ballistic missiles)
We (for the most part) support each other in times of crisis (think Iraq since 91 and Afghanistan)
Have close academic ties
And are officially the two most hated countries on the planet
So a bit of gentle swiping now and again on a site like this does no harm.

Any fight, as you put it, is not between the nations but between the small-minded individuals concerned. There is no fight between the US & the UK, we are the best of friends. We do not always agree, & sometimes we go our separate ways, but overall the "special relationship" so beloved of Winston Churchill is alive and thriving.
BTW I am British & have never been to the US

I recognize no borders-unfortunately the govt's don't agree with me.

Its a stupid as people actually fighting over "whose" team is best.

About 5 years ago I decided that I would no longer tolerate hateful, mean, ignorant, bigoted, etc people around me. My pool of friends has dropped dramatically and I have less stress and am quite happy. I do enjoy mocking the inept on here though...

Us Britons are only annoyed because Bush has such a strong influence on Blair that we were sent to war regardless of morals or facts. the Americans by nature have always been loud - they tend to like their views to be heard. i don't know why Americans are so quick to defend "their" country, as it sure as hell isn't theirs, but they do tend to ignore that.
not taking sides, the British government is appalling at the moment.

it's a pointless argument. there can be no objective data to swing it either way.

i vote that Australia wins.

Strange as it may seem, this debate has been going on for 1000's of years....
As soon as people knew about others that were 'different' to them, there has been an attitude that 'I am right and you are wrong'...

It is just human nature and as long as we are still able to 'think for ourselves' we will always have these prejudices against our fellow beings....

The real important lesson is to rise above this and just be proud of how you behave, and not give a toss about what 'strangers' think.... if you are mature enough that is....

Same goes for the great slave apology debate. It's history - give it up and move on. The British were enslaved by the Romans 2000 years ago - should I demand an apology from the Mayor of Rome today?

We have a different culture, so we are bound to not agree with another country , just because we talk the same language doesn't mean we feel the same way about things, ask the Aussies!!

The Americans started it....

Seriously though, it is childish, but in most cases it is also fairly understandable:
Because this is a 'faceless' forum, many people feel they can state their opinions bluntly without apologising. It's also an opportunity to be provocative - usually for the entertainment value - it's fun to push people's buttons.
It's a great place for a rant. No-one can interrupt your diatribe on how rubbish/great a country is.
People feel they need to put their oar in and explain/defend/provoke further.
And finally - everyone is an expert on other people's problems and many feel the need to demonstrate that by pointing out shortfalls and perceived inadequacies.
It is all very childish, but somehow I don't think the people who engage in these discussions are on answers for reasoned debate.

These senseless remarks are exactly why the world is the way it is today. To imply that one country is superior to another is ignorant. As two supposedly civilised countries we are both guilty of tierney and persecution in one form of another.
