I think a world government is very likely if not inevitable. This is why I think so(I am not giving any facts so pls don't bash me for getting some things wrong).
When humans were still primitive weren't there battles between tribes? Countries couldn't go to war yet...there were no countries! Then technology advanced and humans invented better weapons, languages, and transportation methods(horses for example). All these tribes and things got together and formed countries. Then all the countries had battles.
What next? Globalisation is increasing and the internet is expanding, we are inventing faster and more efficient transportation. I believe the Internet contribute greatly towards a universal culture and language. When we have better transportation we will be able to travel to other countries in minutes.
What will all this mean? It means we have to get along because we will get so close, thus creating universal cultures and languages and even a race as everybody breeds.

So this is like the formation of a country from all those little tribes. It will probably mean a universal government and world peace, except criminals.
I think the world government will be mostly influenced by the USA(as it is the most powerful), and this is not a bad thing, as it doesn't really matter which country influences this universal race as long as they end up all equal with world peace(which will happen).
The only threats I could think of to a world government are:
-we destroy ourselves with nukes before all this could happen
-we take over the moon and mars and we have planets instead of countries
So what is so bad about a world government?

PPS to the person who said that tribes indeed fought:
But somehow the hostile primitives got together eventually to form a country? I can think of one huge difference with humans, the primitive humans only fought with spears and things, thus not causing a huge numbers of deaths while war between countries could cause a nuclear war, resulting in extinction. But what is going to happen as globalisation increases, populations increase and we get closer together? Looks like there will be some conflict unless we get together and make some rules.

I respect that you don't have facts, and stated that.
There was always conflict.
We didn't invent horses. (kidding)
One world govt. would take away culture, which is the basis for many great things and concepts.
Borders never defined war in theory but "groups" of common thought and the "us vs them" idea, with betterment and/or protection of the "us" part. This would still be there in a one world system. If a group wants something they need but don't have, they'll take it or fight for it from another group of people who do have it.
One world theory will never unite personal needs and wants, thus there will always be conflict. There will always be supporters for each side of a dispute, so there will always be a cause for war. One money/world govt. would be governed by who? Even more trouble there.
If it does happen, I would be very very observant of what's going on, as it would be the end of days. It has already been revealed to be a sign of that. The one who pulls this thought off will appear to do wonderful things. He/she will be a lion in sheeps clothing too. Nah...that's not a good idea on many levels but I do recognize and respect all the thought you put into it. In theory sounds nice and beneficial but it wouldn't be.
Good question though!

Forget all these conspiracy nuts and those who give up their free will to some big bad boogey-man from the Bible. (If it's God's will, so be it... just be free, do as you think best and it will work or not, as God wishes.)
I would highly recommend the book "Non Zero" by Robert Wright if you want to learn about how human have learned to cooperate and how we've moved from thousands of tribes to only 192 countries and onwards to, say 5 or 6 democratic regional states. He has also published several other books and op/eds and was a speaker at a recent TED conference... always inspiring, and without the ideological hang-ups.
You might also consider letting go of the myth of a "one" world government - no one buys into that except the conspiracists who need that threat to justify their paranoia. Those who support democratic global governance favor a federalist model, in which countries continue to exist and continues to exercise sovereignty over their territories and issues they are capable of addressing. Global issues - such as the environment - cannot be addressed by single governments, so those issues should be delegated to a democratically chosen global authority. Federal, not unitary.

It will happen, It's already predicted in the Bible.
But the world will get worse first, The bad part is that will be the Beast, It will seem good at first but it won't be.The Beast will offer world peace, say he has the answer to poverty and he will show power to heal the sick, He will promote to have his mark put on man, I believe it will be a chip like what they have already have put in animals. They will say it will protect you from getting robed and stop identity theft because all your information will be in that chip. Beware it will be on the back of your right hand or your forehead, If you receive the mark of the Beast you are doomed for hell. Soon it will be a law that you have to have it to buy or sell anything and if you don't get it you will go through much suffering even death here on earth.
Read the last book in the Bible. (Revelation)

it is the same New world order of Hitler and has the same people backing it
it will mean slavery ,death camps, torture and second and third class citizens ,with a powerfull elite a the top contolling everyone else
only people with microchip implants can buy and sell things like food .
and the chips also manipulate brainwaves .the people will be like human robots that can be eliminated at any point
IBM who also was behind the tatooed numbers of the jews is also manufacturing the microchips
And America is the Global control
unless you are highlevel mason and /or elite
you will be a worker ,soldier or slave
if you think the New World Order is good it can only mean that you are one of the elite
or you have been brainwashed
either way you are an enemy of the masses
and should be watched, your name has been noted.

It's hugley unlikely that tribes of humans didn't fight. In fact, almost all primates will fight if they consider another group to be moving in on their territory. Despite the lack of real weapons, they will(quite literally) tear each other apart.
What's bad about world government is that in most countries, people feel far removed from the processes of government as it is. Make a world government, and the feeling of disenfranchisement will only increase, and therefore a world government will have instantly failed in its objective, becasue groups of people will simply balkanize further. The only difference is that wars won't officially be between countries.

Perfect harmony among men will come about with a one world government. But such a government needs a perfect judge to rule. Your hope is actually a prediction in the Book of Revelation, New Testament. Try reading it, as well as the Book of Romans, to be prepared to rule with Christ.

There is no such thing as world government . USA or Red China could not cover the whole world to be governed by USA alone. That is why there are countries in the world to govern each populace, the entire jurisdiction of one country. And if there is any thing that could not be settled in one country, there is the International law enacted by the United Nations Organization that will handle the matter in its legal way..
Stop imagenning things that is impossible to humans to do and do you want to reign the whole world and establish your government which you will call it world government. You want to compete with God in making the law of God for the whole human b eings to follow? No way my friend . You do not have the power and might. as God.
Man is giving the needed inntelligence to man on inventions of things in advancing our knowledge of something which we have not yet done before. Without the will of God, man could not invent things like what you have said
What is your problem to God when we are going forward on our intelligence. Is God disturbing you? Did He say stop that or stop this?No He is glad we humans are getting advance on our life and not remaining idle. What God want us is to respect him obey him , obey his laws , to be good creatures of God but we do not think of him anymore. We just do what we want to do specially on bad things. So we will not just ignore God's love for us.

Nothing at all. Matreiya will come and build a one-world government, and unite all peoples, according to Buddhism. This same Matreiya, Christians and Jews look at to be an anti-Christ, the son of the Beast, and an enemy to anybody of the faith. Perhaps Matreiya will be such an enemy, but if so, not because he's the son of the Devil. But because his ideas, and progressive movement of the Earth will carry the weight to destroy most inane monotheistic religions.

a international government is sturdy as a manner to settle disputes between international places with a superpower not giving the prestige of a mediator. that's well timed for a business enterprise of a international physique to alter the activities of the international places fantastically in this age whilst superpowers are imposing their will against adverse international places.
