Hey man, yes, yes, 10 years, yes, yes, OH YES!!
I ending up being diagnosed with biopolar and after all those years of the blues, and don't take that expression lightly either, I finally like my life, my family, my husband and I haven't had a drink since April 26th, 2002!! ya, but who's counting?? ha! ................ my friend?? you need to take yourself off to the pscychiatrist and get properly diagnosed as I did, unless you want to drink yourself into an early grave. That was surely where I was headed ................ I'm just lucky I had a very, "Demanding an answer for what is wrong with my wife NOW" type of husband!! ..............:0)

I was diagnosed with depression at 19 or 20, though it had been going on for some time prior to being diagnosed.
Throughout the years, I've tried many different medications, but due to the lack of response to the medication, the cost, and the unwanted side effects, I never took them very long.
Shortly after being diagnosed the first time, I discovered that amphetamines took away the symptoms of the depression, but caused a new set of problems, one was drinking every night in order to sleep. After a couple of years, I quit taking the speed, but was left with an alcohol habit that took me decades break.
Alcoholism and depression became very intertwined for me. Whenever I sought help for depression, all they saw was the alcohol abuse and want to push me into AA. I'd quit drinking and become suicidal.
I finally got some decent help for depression and drinking became a non-issue. A couple of years after I quit drinking, I tried St. John's wort, an over the counter supplement that is widely used for depression everywhere but the pill-happy US. I've had amazing results.

I am depressed. I've been depressed since I was about nine years old... I took pills (anti-depressants, YES, proscribed!), at first, but they made me sick. My skin would crawl, itch, my head would go light and dizzy, and I got even worse. Every time I mentioned it, they'd up the dosage, and I'd get even worse; I stopped taking them, and am still seeing a shrink.

Yeah, but I should have talked with a therapist, not a doctor...the Dr just put me on meds and they made me feel numb and suicidal. I'm not depressed anymore though, thanks to counseling! :D
