Well this is interesting. In reality people are not labelled as such, but for many purposes it is useful.
For example, in terms of sexual education or marketing, these labels are useful.
The problem is that often these labels don't always fit. In the sexual health area there is a new label, which is Men Who Have Sex With Men. These are people who have sex with men, but don't label themselves as gay.
Each of these groups, have particular issues in terms of sexual health, discrimination and so on. While labelled a person is not really helpful, identifying a group of people and their particular issues, when they can addressed.
For many people who are gay, identifying themselves as gay is important. For them, being gay is not a choice, but part of their nature. So it helps them to consider themselves in that way.
My view is simply that we should not identify yourself as gay or straight. Simply think, is that person sexy or not. If you find somone one sexy and they find you sexy, male, female, old, young (but not too young, ok), black, white, rainbow colored, then baby, it is on.

Just like any other discriminated group. You know the thing that sucks about it though, 1 people who arent LGBTG will never truely understand what its like, 2. UNLIKE other races, LGBTG are hated by anyone and everyone(not quite everyone)but most, 3. no matter what, they will never unstand that its not a choice just like skin color(shade) is not a choice!4. its consider immoral, dirty, perverted, a sin by the bible which people will always let that stupid book run there lives(sorry you can still beleive in god and prey without living your life to a BOOK that someone wrote, over and over too) Its rediculous! and rather a sad story, because like racism which there will always be some, hatred towards sexuality will always be a GREATER ISSUE because of the fact that it can only be understood by those who are LGBTG!

Well because we're ostracized by mainstream culture. They have tried to suppress us and so on. It's only now that people are starting to really not care, where gay people can just go to any club and not get picked on.
This segregation was forced on us at first, we were ostracized and needed to band together to try to get by. We were singled out for being GLBT.
So yeah, it's only now making a drastic change to a whole sexual spectrum, basically GLBTS. But it's still long from being fully realized.

because they are the minority and because they were discriminated agents for a long time. And yes people are all people but not everyone is the same. And for a long time homosexuality was considered a sin and many gays and lesbians were killed. Thus its pretty much a way of saying sorry i guess? because even to this day people are still discriminating just because they are attracted to the same sex

Usually, because other people have considered us a particular group, determined by our sexuality, and have treated us not as special, but rather as bad, evil, perverted, immoral, and so on.
Our banding together now is a result of that and the social mentality that sees sexuality as making people somehow inherently different.
I can't say I feel like I'm treated as a special group member right now, though- I'm not allowed to marry who I choose, and people in my group are still getting harassed, harmed, and even killed just for being in the group.
So . . . take from that what you will.

Great Question!
For some reason, this particular group has a lot of clout and a lot of money.
The rest of the heteros just go about their daily chores, never upsetting the applecart.
But these folks get all the media attention and all the benefits going their way!
I say whatever you want to do is your own dam business and don't infringe on my rights because you need to make a statement!

"group" its what you call people that assemble right...
well guess what gay people assemble. And you know what regular people assemble too... Like blacks, latins, goths, punks, prep, greeks, or geeks. They have different reasons to assemble but for the most part people assemble to find people like themselves.
Can sexuality determine a group.... yes just like race, income, interests, beliefs and half a million other trates can.

EXACTLY! By special I hope you mean targeted for crimes, hatred and forbidden to marry. Because, like you said, they are like all the rest.

"Anyone for a hetero day parade?"
Go for it. Unlike you, I wouldn't take issue with that. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
"Maybe they can have their own special gay Olympics."
We already do.

"Special"? Because of the discrimination we face from fools and bigots who do NOT seem to realise that we are just people?
