It's probably a difference in culture, but I couldn't live with these people if I couldn't even be barefoot indoors! I've been barefoot everywhere for ten years -including outdoors, winter, work, etc, etc- and the last time I wore footwear for less than one mile I had blisters. If I'm not welcome barefoot, no matter how cool the place or people may be otherwise, I won't go. Bare feet are part of my appearance as much as a tattoo or hair color or such would be, perhaps not in a practical sense since shoes can be easily put on and taken off but in a sense as how I *feel* about them; would you ask someone to cover up a tattoo or color/cover their hair if it happened to be green? I guess your friends could take a look at the link in the source, 'a case for bare feet', which debunks many myths about hygiene, safety, foot odor, and also respect, however it was written mostly with an American audience in mind. I'm not sure how well it'd serve to convince people who have a deeply ingrained cultural dislike of bare feet.

Ah this is a tricky question here. The answer depends on the situation.
(1) If I'm outdoor than I would walk around in socks with shoes on of course.
(2) If I'm indoor than I would walk around barefoot.
(3) If I'm at the beach than I would either walk around barefoot or in sandals.
(4) If it's cold than I would walk around in socks.
(5) Even if it's hot, if I'm outdoor other than at the beach, than I would probably still walk around in socks.

Most likely barefoot. Unless I am around someone who I do not want to see me barefoot.

For me its barefoot. I've been barefoot 24/7 for a year and I love it.
